Steiff National Geographic Carl Little Penguin

This adorable cupped handful is Carl, the Little Penguin. He represents the world's smallest species and a respected colony located in Australia's North Harbour, Sydney. A wonderful design from the Master Teddy Bear Maker, Steiff in collaboration with National Geographic.

Carl is 25cm and a non-jointed, plush toy penguin chick. He has been sewn from two luxuriously soft plushes, in a dark mottled brown, with a creamy-beige for his torso, whilst his beak and webbed feet are velvety smooth. Much attention has been given to his delicately applied airbrush shading, that has bought blending, depth, character and shape, whilst his glossy, two-tone brown safety eyes glimmer out above his beak. He is just fabulous!

Carl wears his Steiff button-in-ear with a yellow label and is surface wipeable.

The Little Penguin was photographed by Joel Sartore, for National Geographic and their Photo Ark, Species Preservation Project.

The Little Penguin goes by other names and resides specifically elsewhere too. In New Zealand they are known by three names, their Maori name Korora, Little Blue Penguin or simply Little Penguin, whilst in Australia, due to their petite size, they have the nickname Fairy Penguins. They inhabit the Southern coastlines, but it is the North Harbour group that is of cause for concern. Once in their hundreds, their numbers have decreased to as low as 70 pairs. Due to this, they are protected with a conservation order (NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995).

This Steiff product conforms to European safety standards, holding the CE symbol and is machine washable at 30C.
